Presentations at the Roscommon Volunteer Awards 2017

The Roscommon Volunteer Awards 2017, co-ordinated by Roscommon Volunteer Information Service, were held in Kilbride Community Centre, Four Mile House on December 1st. Presenting the Awards was Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Cllr. Orla Leyden. Speakers included Martina Earley, RLP and Chairperson of the Roscommon Volunteering Information Service, Eugene Cummins, Chief Executive of Roscommon County Council and Claire Morgan, Roscommon Herald.

Paraic Noone from Keadue was awarded the Older Volunteer of the Year category and Group of the Year was bestowed on Kilbride Community Centre. Four Mile House.

This year saw the introduction of a new award, Schools Civic Social Engagement Award, which was won by Transition Year, Castlerea Community School for their work on the Spooky Forest Walk on the Suck Valley Way at Clonalis House over Halloween weekend.

The main award of the night, Volunteer of the Year, sponsored by the Roscommon Herald, was awarded to Vincent Healy Cloontuskert. Vincent is founding member of Cloontuskert Residents Association, as well as setting up a cycling club in the area and is a member of the ISPCA and Lough Ree Sub Aqua Club.

Entertainment on the night was provided by Roscommon Solstice Choir and Roscommon County Youth Orchestra.
