For Men’s Health week 2025 Roscommon Volunteer Centre organised an event in conjunction with Roscommon Sports Partnership (RSP)and Roscommon Community Sports Park, Lisnamult, Roscommon. This was the first time Roscommon Sports Partnership got involved with Men’s Health Week and were quite brilliant with the assistance in organising the event. Lead by experienced nurse Edel Doherty, there was an informative health talk and a reminder of how important it is to get checked regularly. Edel facilitated a blood pressure check and a BMI measurement for anyone who wanted to take a very valuable opportunity to get a professional health check.

After the talk and health-check we had a kickabout on the wonderful Astroturf facility available to rent in Lisnamult with enough participants to make up two decent teams for a match – followed by a quick warm-up and some stretching exercises with Attilia, our football coach for the evening. We then went in to cool down and listen to another talk – this time from Paddy Joe “The Barber”, who gave a very interesting take on the theme of ‘A Problem Shared’. This was an enlightening take based on Paddy Joe’s many years of listening and offering a safe environment to his clients who valued his service as a crucial part of the fabric of their community.

The event was successful and hopefully, if it is continued next year, it can be bigger and better. A big shout out to all who made this evening a special event including Edel, Paddy Joe, Attila, Lisa O’Neill and Shane McDermott of the Roscommon Sports Partnership.
